Alright dads it’s almost time, but there is still one thing to talk about and that’s packing your bag for the hospital! I know it might sound silly but you need the essentials. I live in Canada so every hospital experience might differ but here in my option on what you need to bring.
Comfortable lounging clothes- there is a lot of waiting around depending on your wife so being comfortable is important and even throw a pair of slippers in there to really enjoy the experience
Snacks- I didn’t realize until we had arrived at the hospital and settled into the room and dinner arrived that I wasn’t going to get food from the hospital because as the partner they don’t feed you haha. Also don’t leave the hospital too long if you are getting take out cause you don’t want to miss the action
Fire stick/Apple TV- this was an absolute game changer for us, a friend told us to bring one as the small tvs in the room offered Telus tv for a daily price but the wifi in the hospital was free. It was a no brainer to be able to watch comfort tv or movies to relive some of the stress and anxiety before getting into the wildest thing you can be apart of !
Pillow/Blanket- having your own pillow and blanket for the pull out bed or collapsible chair you get to enjoy helped just a little bit. Don’t complain about how awful it is, pro tip haha I’m sure your partner is a little more uncomfortable than you are! Also a very long phone charger is good to have since you have no idea where the outlets will be !
Every hospital and experience is different and their birth stories are different. These are just some tips to make yourself a little more comfortable and relaxed during all of it. If you are in a good mindset she will be, as you are her support system and doing this together! Help her out as much as possible, be the love and support she needs because child birth is the real deal as you will experience it yourself !
Remember dads, it’s ok to not be ok. You are not alone
